Our Lady of Good Health Province, Tamil Nadu
In 1951, Pallottine Fathers and Brothers from the Sacred Heart Province, Germany, came to India and started the Indian mission in Raipur, Chhattisgarh. The Raipur mission of the Pallottines gradually grew as a Region and subsequently the first Pallottine Province “Prabhu Prakash Province” was erected in 1988. The Pallottine mission also gave birth to the Diocese of Raipur with a Pallottine priest as its first Apostolic Administrator. After 50 years of Pallottine presence in India, on January 06, 2002 the Prabhu Prakash Province was divided into three entities, viz. Prabhu Prakash Province (Nagpur), Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary (ABVM) Province (Bangalore), and Khrist Jyoti Region (Raipur), which later became a Province.
The ABVM Province in turn was transformed into three units and the process of transformation came to a conclusion with the canonical erection of the new Units on January 06, 2020. The Pallottines in Tamil Nadu became an independent Province taking the name of Our Lady of Good Health (OLGH Province). The official inauguration took place on 22 January 2020, the Feast of St. Vincent Pallotti, our Founder. The name of the Province, Our Lady of Good Health, has a history of Catholicism behind it, as it has its roots in the apparitions of Mother Mary in Velankanni (situated in Tamil Nadu) in the 16th century. Our Province is blessed with 96 Priests, and 49 students in various levels of formation. In Tamil Nadu, we are involved mainly in the pastoral care of the people in the parishes, in education ministry for the poor children, in social empowerment of women, and in healing ministry. Besides Tamil Nadu, we have also missions in Taiwan.
